What laws make a better society?

I firmly believe that as a nation our greatest fear, next to the national debt, and the potential for human genocide, is a political/judicial machine out of control and totally blinded by power and greed. This nations individuals need compassion and mutual understanding, not aggressive overt domination by armed thugs. We are ruled by super rich attorneys calling for more laws, more police, more prisons.  This oppressive robbery is imperiling this once great nation. Doesn't history clearly show where tyranny leads? Please, let us get a grip, harmony is imperiled by coercion. What kind of world are we creating for the children? I hold certain rights as a citizen of a free society as sacred and inviolable. As a citizen of a "free society" I believe with every fiber of my being that I am obligated to radically oppose tyranny in all of its forms. I am 100% opposed to any law or action that violates a persons inalienable right to do anything they wish, so long as it does not endanger or interfere with another person's enjoyment of those same rights. Though we may disagree with the behavior of another person, we have no right to impose our values upon them for any reason, so long as they harm or endanger only themselves.  Take a look in our jails and prisons to discover that the vast majority of inmates are being imprisoned for drugs. What does society gain from ruining a persons life? Do we believe that jailing someone, robbing them of their money and self respect, costing them their jobs, and breaking up their families helps promote positive change? The answer I believe is, that it costs all of us dearly. But it's a giant wind fall for the attorneys, courts, and correctional custody workers. The cops seem to love the game called beat up the so called bad guy. Are these officers of the law on the side of true justice or are they the most heinous of gangs. Just who is the real bad guy? Is it really the person minding his own business, searching for a good feeling? We can not legislate responsible behavior. Let's learn to love & respect one another, and place people before profit.

I experienced first hand one day the crippling sting of a cops baton while I was on my knees having been sprayed in the face with pepper spray, for nothing more than a minor infraction. To justify his actions he filled his report with 15 lies to support his resisting arrest charge. This was the sole charge that the court had as justification to rip me off for thousands of dollars plus require numerous court appearances and jail time when the only crime was by the cop. This experience was a great eye opener. Sitting in jail was enlightening, it gave me pause to contemplate human motivation. I am a student in life with lots of questions. One that comes to mind first is:
What motivates positive behavior best, a sense of pride or shame?
Honorable Judge, or flagrant, power drunk, disgraceful tyrant?
Peace Officer, or thug, lying with impunity, searching to destroy?
District Attorney, or dogged criminal, hell bent on destruction?
Defense Attorney, or thieve, playing clients against the system?
Far too many fit the above. I still believe that goodness will prevail.
This life is but a short journey. We each enter into life as helpless as when we leave it. How do some get to be so arrogant during the trip?

It seems we as a society would be well advised to take some lessons from the bees. The bee colony is a model of cooperation where each individual is committed to the common good. Now humans, by virtue of our superior intellect, shouldn't we do as well?
